First, it is clear that eternal life is conditioned on believing, not on performing good deeds. Second, once you believe, it says you have eternal life, not you will get eternal life if you live a good enough life. It's a present possession. If you could lose it, then it was never eternal in the first place.

When we make that decision to believe, or to place our trust, in Christ, we receive eternal life at that moment -- no strings attached and no conditions.
