Mud pies or a day at the beach?
Perhaps an even stronger motivation for living a good life is the desire to experience what Jesus called the abundant life -- a full, rich and satisfying life. The Bible says that God wants to produce certain traits in our lives -- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Doesn't that describe what most of us would really like to have in life -- the kinds of things money can't buy? But we can only experience these traits by developing closeness with Him, by trusting Him and by following His direction, that is, by living a good life with His help. We're therefore motivated to live a good life, not to gain eternal life (we've already been given that), but to experience the abundant life between here and Heaven.
