How did things get
so messed up?
The Bible tells us that God made humans "in his own image," enough like him that they could have a relationship. He named the first people Adam and Eve and placed them in a paradise called the Garden of Eden. God told them they could enjoy the garden to their hearts' content, except for the fact that they weren't to eat the fruit of one tree. God warned them of dire consequences if they disobeyed. Well, they rebelled against God's one command, and we are told that at that point the world changed drastically from a world without pain to a world filled with suffering.
