Not only does the New Testament say, "You are saved by grace, not by works ...," it also says, "The gift is given to the one who does not work for it." The idea is that it can't be a gift if we're doing anything to earn it. The concepts of grace and good deeds are mutually exclusive. Like oil and water, they don't mix. |
