What about Jews before the timeof Christ?
According to the New Testament, many Jews had "right standing" with God. A chapter in the New Testament, often referred to as "The Hall of Faith," cites Jews like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for their exemplary faith. The word for Christ is an English pronunciation of the Greek translation of the Hebrew word for Messiah. The Hebrew scriptures, perhaps as early as the Garden of Eden, began predicting, directly or indirectly, the coming of the Messiah.
