What did Jesus think
about hypocrisy?
Jesus often criticized the religious leaders for their hypocrisy. In fact, one could say He blasted them. He said that although they claimed to represent Moses and although their teaching on the law was valid, no one should ever follow their example. He chastised them for wanting to be honored, for mouthing grandiose public prayers to show off and for making a big deal about how much money they gave at the synagogue, while they ignored the more important aspects of the law like justice and mercy. He even said they were like white-washed graves, white and clean on the outside but rotten and decaying on the inside.
